Activision Blizzard confirmed today that this year’s Call of Duty game will be a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. Also, a revamped version of Warzone will be released alongside with it
Warzone 2 will feature an “all-new playspace and a new sandbox mode” according to Call of Duty enthusiasts. A new engine will power both the Modern Warfare sequel and Warzone.
Furthermore, according to sources, Warzone 2 will be released to fix all the flaws that the Call of Duty Warzone is now facing.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Announcement
Infinity Ward, which previously worked on Modern Warfare 2019 and Call of Duty: Warzone, will now again lead development on both titles. Both games are among the most popular Call of Duty titles ever, with Warzone establishing itself as a significant player in the battle royale genre.
The information for Call of Duty 2022 was revealed as part of a community update that also included information for Call of Duty: Vanguard and Warzone Season 2. Activision Blizzard has promised more than 30 changes ahead of the start of the new season on February 14, including solutions for multiplayer issues in Modern Warfare 3.
According to Infinity Ward Co-Studio Head Pat Kelly, the new Warzone experience will be “disruptive” and a “huge evolution of Battle Royale.” He also suggested that it will include an “extremely ambitious sandbox option,” however they declined to explain.
The new Warzone experience has yet to be given a release date by either Infinity Ward or Raven Software. Given that it’s based on the Modern Warfare 2 engine, it’s likely that we’ll see it at some time in fall 2022.
